ADA, Minn. (June 11, 2020) – A good crowd of fans again filled the stands on Thursday night as RDO presented week two of Thursday Night Thunder at Norman County Raceway. Two first-time winners, Steve Nordhagen and Brendan Blascyk, visited victory lane, while familiar names Rob VanMil, Rick Schulz, Aaron Wetterlin, and Scott Richardson also picked up wins.

Steve Nordhagen, 64 of Thief River Falls, Minn., claimed his first career win at Norman County Raceway on Thursday night.

The high-side was the fastest way around the speedway for the Sanders Metal Products IMCA Modifieds. All drivers inside the top five rode the extreme high side of the speedway. Rob VanMil of Barnesville, Minn. started on the pole and led all 15 laps en route to his first Modified victory of the season. The best battle on the track was the race for second as Michael Johnson of Moorhead and Fargo’s Austin Arneson raced side by side lap after lap. Arneson appeared to have the faster car, but Johnson had the preferred line in the moisture on the outside of the speedway. VanMil led Johnson, Arneson, Aaron Johnson of Brainerd, and Jesse Skalicky of Fargo to the checkers.

Rick Schulz of Horace, N.D. withstood heavy pressure from Kalvin Kesselberg of Ada in the closing stages of the Norman County Implement IMCA Stock Car feature to claim the win. Schulz has gotten a good start to the season thus far. His win on Thursday was his second of the season through three events. His other win came on June 5th at Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, N.D.

Aaron Wetterlin came from the sixth starting position to win the Titan Machinery IMCA SportMod feature. Wetterlin quickly moved to the second position before tracking down leader Brandon Tendeland of West Fargo, N.D. Once out front, Wetterlin checked out and took the win. Behind him, a great battle for second broke out between eighth and 10th place starters Luke Johnson of Glyndon and Rich Pavlicek of Casselton, N.D. Pavlicek took the runner up spot at the checkers as Johnson rounded out the podium.

Steve Nordhagen grabbed his first career Christian Brothers Ford IMCA Hobby Stock feature win in his Norman County Raceway debut. Nordhagen of Thief River Falls is a 64-year-old third-year racer. Nordhagen held off IMCA national front runner Tim Gonska of Brainerd, in the closing stages. Gonska had a run on Nordhagen heading into turns three and four on the final lap, but heavy contact between the two stalled Gonska’s run and gave Nordhagen the win by a nose at the AuctionBlock.com flagstand.

In a wild finish to the Christian Motors WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature, Brendan Blascyk picked up his first career Norman County Raceway win. Blascyk, of Kensington, Minn. who plans to compete at Norman County weekly in 2020, started fifth on the grid but found himself in the third position by lap five. Blascyk rode behind early race leader Chris Mack of Jamestown, N.D., and Zach Bruer of Fischer. Mack and Bruer had a great battle for the lead as both drivers rode the rim around the fast and tacky three-eighths-mile oval. With four laps to go, Mack slid off the track in turns one and two as Blascyk, who ran second, narrowly missed him. The caution flew and Blascyk assumed the race lead.

On the restart, Blascyk held off Bruer to visit KRJB/KRJM/KKCQ Victory Lane for the first time. Bruer and Jeff Nelson of Perham rounded out the podium.

A four-car breakout was led by Scott Richardson to start the Seedex INEX Legend feature. The Braseth brothers of Ryan and Alex ran second and third, respectively, while 2018 track champion Brody Carlsrud of Moorhead rode fourth. A debris caution came out with four laps down, which put Carlsrud to the tail of the field. In the closing laps, the top three cars all ran within four car lengths on the top side of the speedway. Richardson held on for the win while Alex and Ryan Braseth, Tony Brockhouse of Glyndon, and Carlsrud rounded out the top five.

Racing continues at Norman County Raceway next Thursday night with the green flag dropping at 7 pm.

ADA, Minn. (June 4, 2020) – A sizable, yet socially distant crowd filled the historic Norman County Raceway grandstand on Thursday night as the speedway hosted its 102nd season of racing at the three-eighths-mile oval.

The IMCA Stock Cars proved once again why they are the nightcap at the speedway. In what was the most exciting event of the evening, Mike Anderson of Walcott, N.D. raced to his first career NCR Stock Car win after a hard-fought battle with Rob Vanmil of Barnesville.

Starting on the pole, Anderson took the lead from fellow front-row starter, Travis Robertson of Moorhead, on the opening lap. Robertson filed into second, but after a few laps had the fifth-place starter, VanMil, hot on his heels. Both Robertson and VanMil remained within striking distance of the leader until both of them caught Anderson at the halfway point.

Exiting turn two on lap seven of 14, they raced three-wide down the back straightaway into turn three. Anderson hung on to lead the lap, but VanMil came charging back two laps later. Anderson and VanMil ran the final six circuits side by side, exchanging the lead seemingly every circuit, while Robertson and seventh-place starter, Todd Heinrich of Fargo, remained in contention for the win.

VanMil gave Anderson everything he had on the final lap, but Anderson’s momentum carried him to the win.

On Thursday night, Norman County Raceway honored fallen Grand Forks Police Department officer, Cody Holte, before the Stock Car feature. Kalvin Kesselberg (pictured), a cousin of Holte, led the field during Lap of Silence.

Austin Arneson of Fargo found his way to KRJB/KRJM/KKCQ Victory Lane after a convincing performance in the IMCA Modified feature. Arneson started on the pole and led every lap. Arneson is no stranger to visiting victory lane early in the season at the Norman County Fairgrounds. Since 2016, Arneson hasn’t finished worse than second at NCR’s season opener. During that streak, Arneson has three wins and an average finish of 1.4. The win was Arneson’s first in his homebuilt chassis.

Brock Gronwold of Fergus Falls dominated the night’s WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature. Gronwold grabbed the lead early on from the pole position as Jeff Nelson of Perham, Lance Schill of Langdon, N.D., and Brendan Blascyk of Kensington all battled for second.

Midway through the event, lapped traffic wreaked havoc for the leaders. Gronwold was able to slip by cleanly, however drivers in positions two through five became all bunched up down the back straightaway.

That allowed Gronwold to open up a big lead. Several laps later, lapped traffic was encountered again by the leaders, however, this time second-place runner Lance Schill was collected and brought out the caution.

Gronwold went on to claim the win in a green-white-checkered finish. Hunter Hougard of Warren was the hard charger of the event, racing from seventh to finish second.

Tim Gonska of Brainerd has been racing since early this winter at IMCA Hobby Stock events across the country. Gonska, who has won his fair share of those races, continued his winning ways at Norman County Raceway. The defending North Central Speedway track champion dominated the Hobby Stock main event to score his first Norman County Raceway win since June of 2018.

Ryan Braseth of Ulen cruised to the INEX Legends feature race. Braseth came from the fourth starting position to take the lead on the opening lap. The young up-and-comer led every lap to pick up his third career Norman County Raceway feature win.

ADA, Minn. (August 22, 2019) – Great racing and exciting point battles made for a compelling night of action as Norman County Raceway concluded its 101st year of racing.

Noah Metzger of Crookston, Minn. led all 14 trips around the three-eights mile oval as he claimed his first career Titan Machinery IMCA SportMod feature win. The win didn’t come easy, however, as eventual track champion Andy Wagner put heavy pressure on Metzger in the closing laps.

Wagner pulled alongside of Metzger down the back straightaway on the final circuit. Metzger held a steady line through turns three and four and won the drag race to capture the win.

Michael Johnson of Harwood, N.D. led Tyler Hall of Fertile, Minn. in the early stages of the Sanders Metal Products IMCA Modified feature, but the best action on the track was further back in the pack. The brothers Arneson of Austin and Casey of Fargo, N.D. put on a show moving to the front from the back of the pack.

Hall took the lead with eight laps to go and Casey moved by Johnson for second with six to go. The final five laps were a shootout between the top two contenders as Casey searched every inch of the speedway looking for a way around Hall. Hall held his line around the low side of the speedway and held off Casey to pick up the win.

Dale Kraling of Mayville, N.D. and Jesse Skalicky of Fargo were tied atop the Modified standings at the end of the feature, but the tiebreaker and the championship went to Skalicky.

Hometown favorite, Kalvin Kesselberg of Ada, jumped out to the lead of the Norman County Implement IMCA Stock Car feature. Kesselberg quickly had his hands full with Todd Heinrich of Fargo. Heinrich battled with Kesselberg for several laps before taking the lead with eight to go. Heinrich went on to take the win, holding off Travis Robertson of Moorhead on the final lap. The win was Heinrich’s first at NCR. Rob VanMil of Barnesville, Minn., who scored four wins this season, took home the title.

Tim Shiek of Fargo dominated the Christian Brothers Ford IMCA Hobby Stock feature. The win for Shiek was his division-leading fourth of the season. Brad Orvedal of Fargo claimed the Hobby Stock track championship by just three points over Shiek.

WISSOTA Midwest Modified national point leader, Cole Searing of Huron, S.D., rolled into Ada and left town with the Christian Motors feature win. Ryan Schow of McIntosh, Minn. led early, but Searing charged from the eighth starting position to claim the lead with 10 laps remaining. Once out front, Searing led the remainder of the race, but Schow stayed within striking distance for several laps. At the checkers, Searing picked up the win by 1.2 seconds over Schow.

Reise Stenberg of Argusville, N.D. was crowned the Midwest Modified track champion.

A relatively uneventful Seedex INEX Legends feature produced the most exciting finish of the night as Alex Braseth of Ulen, Minn. and Andrew Jochim of Glyndon, Minn. battled for the win on the final lap.

Braseth had to maneuver around lapped traffic coming to the AuctionBlock.com flagstand which allowed Jochim to nearly pull even with him. At the line, Braseth held on to win by a bumper.

Tye Wilke claimed the championship.

ADA, Minn. (August 8, 2019) – The racing action has been incredible all season long at Norman County Raceway and last Thursday night was no different.

The winner of the Sanders Metal Products IMCA Modified feature was determined until the final few feet after 18 trips around the high-banked three-eighths-mile oval.

Norman County Raceway regulars Jesse Skalicky of Fargo, N.D. and Tyler Hall of Fertile, Minn. battled for the lead and the win in the closing stages. Skalicky was looking for his first win at NCR of the season, while Hall was in search of his second.

Brady Petermann of Hawley, Minn. showed the way at the drop of the green flag until Hall took the position on lap six. Skalicky followed Hall around Petermann to take over second.

Hall was in command with a somewhat comfortable lead until the closing stages as Skalicky found his groove and reeled in Hall. On the final lap, Skalicky entered turns three and four side by side with Hall.

Skalicky got a great run on the high side and edged Hall in a photo finish by a margin of 0.04 seconds.

Petermann, Rich Pavlicek, and Dylan Goplen rounded out the top five.

After a rough last week, Reise Stenberg of Argusville, N.D. redeemed himself and picked up his fourth Christian Motors WISSOTA Midwest Modified win of the year at NCR. Stenberg’s margin of victory was a whopping 3.3 seconds over Jeff Nelson of Fergus Falls, Minn.

Alyssa White of West Fargo, N.D. continued to find victory lane in her break out season in the Christian Brothers Ford IMCA Hobby Stocks. The third-year, 17-year-old racer picked up her third NCR win of the season after holding off a hard-charging Brad Orvedal of Fargo in the closing laps.

The Northern Lightning Sprint Association made their third and final appearance of the season on Thursday night. Kelsi Pederson of East Grand Forks, Minn. raced to the win to deny Alex Truscinski of the season sweep at NCR. Pederson dominated the feature event, picking up the win over Murray Temple. Truscinski rounded out the podium in third.

An early race wreck in the Titan Machinery IMCA SportMods put the heavily damaged machines of point leaders, Luke Johnson of Moorhead, Minn. and Andy Wagner of Ada, back in the pack. That allowed Aaron Wetterlin, who was still seeking his first win of the year at the track to capitalize. Wetterlin was untouchable on the bottom and easily cruised to the feature win.

Tye Wilke of Detroit Lakes, Minn. had a slow start to the Petermann Seed INEX Legend feature and had to pick cars off one-by-one. He was the driver willing to run the bottom and he used that to his advantage, picking up his 3rd win of the year at NCR.

Kalvin Kesselberg of Ada found some grip on the bottom and powered his way past Aaron Olson of Mekinock, N.D. on lap three of the Norman County Implement IMCA Stock Car feature. He held the lead for the next five laps, but he struggled to get his car and continued to drift higher in turns three and four which opened the door for Rob VanMil of Barnesville, Minn. to pounce on Kesselberg. Rick Schulz of Horace, N.D. would give VanMil a run for his money on the final laps running the top lane, but there wasn’t enough grip at that point to make it stick.

On Thursday, August 15th, the NLRA Late Models will make their first visit to NCR in two years. Tickets are just $10. College students get in for $5 with a valid student ID. High school students and younger get in for free.

ADA, Minn. (August 1, 2019) – The eighth running of the Sanders IMCA Modified Challenge brought in a season-high 26 Modifieds and a packed house to Norman County Raceway on Thursday night.

Last week, it was Austin Arneson who dominated the Dakota Cat IMCA Modified Shootout. This week, his younger brother Casey did the same.

Casey Arneson of Fargo, N.D. claimed Thursday’s Sander’s Modified Challenge win at Norman County Raceway.

Casey, of Fargo, N.D., rolled off from the outside of the front row for the 25-lap feature and clearly was the class of the field. Arneson raced out to a big lead, but things got interesting towards the end of the race. It appeared as though Arneson’s machine was beginning to fade, which allowed John Nord of Enderlin, N.D. to close in.

Arneson’s lead was too big, however, as he held on to claim the $1,250 payday. Nord, Josh Eberhardt of Jamestown, N.D., Rob VanMil of Barnesville, Minn., and 13th place starter, Dale Kraling of Mayville, N.D., rounded out the top five.

“I just went out there and tried to race my own race,” said Arneson in KRJB/KRJM/KKCQ Victory Lane. “I just kept running the high side. I wanted to go to the bottom so bad because it was getting dirtier and dirtier up top, but I just knew I had to stay up there. It was six years ago to today I ran my first ever Modified race here at Norman County so it’s pretty cool to get the win tonight.”

Aaron Blacklance of Thief River Falls, Minn. picked up the Christian Motors WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds feature win. The key for Blacklance was the restarts as he was able to hold off the pack each and every time. Lucas Rodin of Marion, N.D. raced side by side with Blacklance for several laps in the closing stages. Despite making a few bobbles, Blacklance managed to quickly recover and continue battling with Rodin.

The race came down to a drag race off turn four to the AuctionBlock.com flagstand. At the checkers, Blacklance held on by a mere half car length for his first win at Norman County Raceway this season.

The Christian Brothers Ford IMCA Hobby Stock feature started with a bang as Tim Shiek of Fargo and Alyssa White of West Fargo, N.D. tangled in the opening set of corners. Both cars would resume after the incident and White took the lead after the restart. However, point leader Brad Orvedal of Fargo seemed to have the best handling car and took the lead after lap three and went on to take the checkers.

Scott Jacobson of Fargo took over the lead on lap seven from Vince Jegtvig of Dilworth, Minn. in the Titan Machinery IMCA SportMod feature. From there, fans were treated to an excellent battle between Jacobson and Andy Wagner for the rest of the race, which was filled with slide jobs, crossovers, and bumper taps. In the end, Jacobson was able to keep his momentum up and took home the win in just his second NCR start of the season.

The Norman County Implement IMCA Stock Cars produced another Norman County Raceway classic as two veteran drivers fought for the win. There were clearly two distinct grooves of racing around the three-eighths-mile oval as Rick Schulz of Horace, N.D. ran on the high side and Rob VanMil of Barnesville raced around the infield tire barriers on the inside. Both drivers raced side-by-side for almost the entire race, but Schulz ran an almost flawless race and was able to bring his car to the finish first.

Next week at NCR is Hall of Fame night. The NLSA Lightning Sprints will also be back in town, along with the weekly Thursday Night Thunder divisions. Green flag drops at 7pm.

ADA, Minn. (July 25, 2019) – The 101-year-old grandstand at Norman County Raceway was packed with race fans on Thursday night for the speedway’s Jam the Stands night.

A strong field of Sanders Metal Products IMCA Modifieds was set for 20 trips around the high-banked three-eighths-mile oval for the Dakota Cat Shootout. Fargo’s Austin Arneson started on the outside of the front row and grabbed the lead on lap one over Dale Kraling of Mayville, N.D. Arneson checked out and ran away from the rest of the field.

As the checkers flew from the AuctionBlock.com flagstand, Arneson’s margin of victory was over six seconds, equating to a little more than a full straightaway over Kraling.

The IMCA Stock Car feature got off to a wild start as the field went three wide two rows deep in the first set of corners. Jordan Zillmer of Cleveland, N.D. took the lead on the opening lap from the fifth position with Travis Robertson of Moorhead, Minn. behind him.

Further back in the field, drivers were racing four wide on lap two. The race for the lead went three wide again on lap three as Robertson and Rick Schulz of Horace, N.D. both challenged Zillmer. Schulz made contact with Robertson and spun to bring out the first caution. On the restart, the three and four-wide racing continued which significantly shuffled the running order. After no less than six cars raced within two and a half car lengths of each other, Todd Heinrich of Fargo emerged as the race leader over Rob VanMil of Barnesville, Minn. and Tim Church of Dilworth, Minn.

With five to go, rookie Stock Car driver Kalvin Kesselberg of Ada entered the fray as he peeked under both Heinrich and VanMil for the lead to make it a three-wide battle. VanMil took the lead from Heinrich with two to go. VanMil took the win by a car length as Heinrich edged out Kessleberg for second.

After picking up her first career Norman County Implement IMCA Hobby Stock feature win last week, Alyssa White of West Fargo, N.D. went back-to-back. White had a mid-race challenge in the form of Tim Shiek, but held him off to pick up a dominating win.

After a runner-up finish last week, Andy Wagner of Ada picked up a convincing Titan Machinery IMCA SportMod feature win. Wagner started in the third position on the 18-car grid, the largest field seen all year at NCR in the SportMods. Kelly Jacobson of Fargo, N.D. jumped out to the early lead from the pole and opened up a comfortable lead. Once Wagner reached the second spot on lap four, he quickly began reeling in Jacobson.

On the restart with 10 laps to go, Wagner dove to the inside of Jacobson to place a bid for the lead. The hometown favorite took the point on the low side of the speedway and cruised to his second Norman County Raceway win of the season.

Cole Searing of Huron, S.D. made his Norman County Raceway debut on Thursday night in the Christian Motors WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds. Aaron Blacklance of Thief River Falls, Minn. led early, but had his hands full with Searing and Reise Stenberg of Argusville, N.D.

Stenberg and Searing had a torrid battle going for second, which quickly became a fight for the lead as they both reeled in Blacklance. Both Stenberg and Searing quickly disposed of Blacklance with Searing taking the point over Stenberg.

Stenberg hung tough for several laps, but Searing eventually pulled away and cruised to KRJB/KRJM Victory Lane.

A week after his younger brother, Ryan, picked up his first career win, Alex Braseth of Ulen raced to the Petermann Seeds INEX Legends win. Twelve-year-old rookie Ashton Spieker of Sabin, Minn. led his first career lap to open the race before Alex Braseth took the point on lap two.

From there, Braseth held off a fast and aggressive Tye Wilke of Detroit Lakes, Minn. by a mere car length to grab the win.

Racing continues on Thursday, August 1st with the eighth annual Sanders IMCA Modified Challenge, featuring a post-race pork chop feed.

ADA, Minn. (July 18, 2019) – The annual King Pin Klash special brought in the toughest field of Norman County Implement IMCA Stock Cars seen all season.

And the racing didn’t disappoint.

Brennan Borg of Harwood, N.D. picked up a hard-fought win to claim his first-ever IMCA Stock Car win at Norman County Raceway and the King Pin Klash title. Borg drove the same car that last year’s King Pin Klash winner, Brandon Schmidt, drove to KRJB/KRJM/KKCQ Victory Lane.

Brennan Borg was crowned the King Pin Klash winner Thursday at Norman County Raceway.

Borg held off Rob VanMil of Barnesville, Minn. in the closing laps. VanMil, who started 10th on the grid, challenged Borg for the lead in the final stages but came home in the second spot. Travis Robertson of Moorhead, Minn. rebounded from an early caution to finish third.

In a wild finish to the Sanders Metal Products IMCA Modified feature, Aaron Johnson of Brainerd, Minn. claimed his first career Norman County Raceway feature win. Johnson led the entire feature wire-to-wire, but had his hands full with Brady Petermann of Hawley, Minn. and Dale Kraling of Mayville, N.D. on the final lap.

Johnson went low in the final set of corners, coming to the checkered flag as Petermann looked to drive by him on the outside. Petermann made contact with a lapped car running in the same groove, which sent both himself and the lapped car hard into the outside retaining wall. In a drag race to the AuctionBlock.com Flagstand, Johnson held off Kraling for the win.

West Fargo’s Alyssa White raced to her first career Christian Brothers Ford IMCA Hobby Stock feature win. The 16-year-old driver started on the pole and built up a five-car length lead within the first five laps.

Alyssa White of West Fargo claimed her first career win Thursday at Norman County Raceway.

Todd Gettel of Mahnomen, and Fargo drivers Tim Shiek and Brad Orvedal all battled for second, which allowed White to pull away even further.

White easily cruised to the checkered flag to claim that elusive first career victory.

In his first-ever visit to Norman County Raceway, Clear Lake, S.D. driver Tony Konold led every lap of the Christian Motors WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds. Konold took the lead on lap one over Ryan Schow of McIntosh, Minn. and Hunter Hougard of Warren, Minn. NCR Midwest Modified point leader, Reise Stenberg of Argusville, N.D. came cruising up from his seventh starting position to be a contender late.

Stenberg moved into the second spot with six laps to go and set his sights on Konold for the lead. Stenberg took a peek under Konold as the white flag was displayed from head flagman Matt Greseth. Konold’s momentum was the difference as Stenberg didn’t quite have enough to clear Konold at the line.

With the win, Konold earns a spot in the AFCO Race of Champions at the WISSOTA 100 at I-94 Speedway in Fergus Falls, Minn. in September.

Brandon Schmidt of Kindred, N.D. dominated the Titan Machinery IMCA SportMod feature. Schmidt started sixth on the 15-car grid and quickly worked his way to the top spot. The opening laps of the feature were plagued by cautions, but once a lap was recorded in the books, the race went 16 laps caution-free.

Schmidt opened up a big lead early as Andy Wagner of Ada and Torey Fischer of West Fargo, N.D. battled for second. Wagner eventually took the spot and checked out from the rest of the pack, but had a lot of ground to make up between himself and Schmidt.

Schmidt cruised to his second Norman County Raceway win of the season as Wagner came home second. Luke Johnson rebounded from being charged for an early caution to round out the podium.

Ryan Braseth of Ulen, Minn. picked up his first-ever Norman County Raceway Petermann Seeds INEX Legend feature win in dominating fashion. Braseth easily cruised to the checkered flag as Tye Wilke of Detroit Lakes, Minn., edged out Brody Carlsrud of Moorhead, Minn. for second.

ADA, Minn. (June 20, 2019) – The Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprint Cars invaded Norman County Raceway on Thursday night during the 124th Norman County Fair.

Wade Nygaard of Grand Forks started on the pole of the 25-lap main event and took the lead at the drop of the green flag. Fellow outside front row starter, 16-year-old Brendan Mullen of Grand Forks, filed into second as Mark Dobmeier of Grand Forks and Thomas Kennedy of Winnipeg, Manitoba moved into third and fourth, respectively.

Dobmeier was able to sneak around Mullen and set his sights on Nygaard for the lead. Nygaard held a comfortable cushion over Dobmeier until a pair of cautions flew with under five laps to go. On each and every restart, Nygaard was able to hold off Dobmeier, NOSA’s all-time wins leader.

On the final green-white-checkered finish, Nygaard quickly jumped out to a four car length lead and cruised to his seventh career Norman County Raceway victory.

Ada’s Andy Wagner has been close to getting his No. 3X IMCA SportMod into KRJB/KRJM/KKCQ Victory Lane all season long. After a hard fought battle in the Titan Machinery main event on Thursday, Wagner picked up that elusive win. Wagner took the lead on lap two and jumped out to a big lead midway through.

In the closing laps, Brandon Schmidt of Hillsboro, N.D. was able to reel in Wagner and place a bid for the lead. Schmidt drove to the inside of Wagner coming to the white flag and had the preferred inside groove. Wagner held tough on the outside as they leaned on each other slightly in the final set of corners. In a drag race to the checkers, Wagner held on by a half car length to claim the win.

In what seems to be a regular occurrence this season at Norman County Raceway, the Christian Motors WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature came down to the brothers-in-law of Matt Schow of McIntosh, Minn. and Reise Stenberg of Argusville, N.D. Stenberg looked to have the race in hand until the yellow flag flew with just two laps to go.

On the ensuing restart, Schow got a great start and pulled even with Stenberg. Schow led by a nose as the lead duo passed underneath Matt Greseth’s white flag. They remained dead even heading into turns three and four for the final time with Schow on the bottom and Stenberg riding the rim on the high side. In a drag race to the finish line, Stenberg’s momentum carried him to the win by a bumper.

The win was Stenberg’s fourth of the season at Norman County.

Tim Shiek of Fargo, N.D. picked up the Christian Brothers Ford IMCA Hobby Stock feature win. Shiek and Alyssa White of West Fargo, N.D. had a great battle for the lead going until White made contact with Shiek down the back straightaway. That sent Shiek spinning wildly into turn three, but both he and White were able to rejoin the field.

Shiek went on to score the win as Brad Orvedal of Fargo held off White for second.

An early slip by leader Andrew Jochim of Glyndon, Minn. allowed Tye Wilke of Detroit Lakes, Minn. to take command of the Seedex INEX Legends feature. Once out front, Wilke easily cruised to the win. Brody Carlsrud of Moorhead held off Jochim to claim the second spot.

Rob VanMil started fourth and dominated the Norman County Implement IMCA Stock Car feature.

ADA, Minn. (June 13, 2019) – In what was the race of the year to this point at Norman County Raceway, Tyler Hall of Fertile held off a hard-charging Casey Arneson of Fargo at the finish of the Sanders Metal Products IMCA Modified feature.

Hall jumped out to the lead on the opening lap and looked to dominate the feature just as he did last Friday night at Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo. However, Arneson, who started 10th on the grid, charged his way through the field and took the second position from Dale Kraling of Mayville before setting his sights on Hall.

Arneson quickly erased Hall’s full straightaway advantage and took the lead as they passed under the white flag. Hall stayed loyal to the high side of the speedway and regained the point as the lead duo charged down the backstretch for the final time. Hall took away Arneson’s line on the bottom in turns three and four but pushed up the speedway slightly. In a drag race to the AuctionBlock.com flagstand, and with the Fertile fans on their feet, Hall took the win by a car length.

Alex Truscinski of Greenbush dominated the NLSA Lighting Sprint main event. Truscinski started on the outside of the front row and pulled away to a big lead over Dexter Dvergsten of Greenbush. Dvergsten closed the gap to within two car lengths on the final lap, but Truscinski held on to go back-to-back at NCR. The NLSA Lightning Sprints will make their third and final appearance to the high-banked three-eights mile oval on August 8th.

Reise Stenberg of Argusville, N.D. led every lap of the Christian Motors WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature, but it didn’t come without a challenge. Stenberg’s brother-in-law, Matt Schow of McIntosh, had to start at the tail of the field after suffering engine troubles in his heat, but Schow sliced his way through the pack to give Stenberg a run for his money.

Schow was all over the rear bumper of Stenberg on the final circuit but ran out of laps as Stenberg cruised to the win. The win was Stenberg’s fifth of the season and second at NCR.

Luke Johnson of Moorhead picked up a thrilling Titan Machinery IMCA SportMod feature. Ada’s Andy Wagner showed the way in the opening laps until he spun his No. 3x machine in turn two. Johnson went on to lead the remainder of the feature but had challenges from Brandon Schmidt of Hillsboro, N.D. and Chris VanMil of Barnesville before Wagner charged his way through the field to become a contender in the closing laps.

It appeared as though Wagner had the faster car as he moved into second with under five laps to go and placed a bid for the lead on the final circuit. Wagner went to the high side of turns three and four trying to drive around Johnson and had the hometown fans on their feet as they headed to Matt Greseth’s checkered flag. Wagner came up a car length shy of the come-from-behind win as Johnson collected his division-leading second feature win of the season.

Tim Shiek of Fargo, N.D. raced to his second Christian Brothers Ford IMCA Hobby Stock feature win of the season. Alyssa White of West Fargo, N.D. looked to back up her heat race win as she raced Shiek hard in the early going but, unfortunately, looped her No. 14 machine around on lap three. Shiek went unchallenged to the feature win.

Aaron Olson of Mekinock, N.D. returned to KRJB/KRJM Victory Lane for the 13th time in an IMCA Stock Car. Olson had a late race challenge in the form of Todd Heinrich, but a caution reset the field and put Heinrich back behind Olson for the ensuing restart. Olson’s win was his first at NCR since August 17, 2017. In 2017, Olson scored an unprecedented 12 Norman County Implement Stock Car wins.
